PICKING THE BEST HAT FOR YOU

Hats say something. They make a statement. They are more than just protection from the sun. They are a style conversation waiting to happen.

I adore hats, but, truthfully, I’ve never had much luck with them. Most hats in stores are too big for me. That’s why Gigi Pip is an excellent place to find a stylish hat. They make adult XS hats and offer various sizes.

I was thrilled to partner with Gigi Pip because I’ve seen their hats all over the internet and have admired them, but I never thought they would be worth my money because of my history with poor hat sizing. When they asked me to talk about how to choose a hat I was very honest with my past experiences and immediately they pointed me to their brilliant sizing guide.

Once I knew my size, I was able to shop by size and see which hats would be best for my head shape. Game changer! To my surprise, there was a huge selection, and then it became a game of narrowing down my options.

As you can tell, I had a hard time choosing. I went with three different hats in three different colors. You can tell in these photos alone that the color of a hat changes the overall experience of an outfit.

A black hat makes a big style statement where as the soft brown color appears more casual. I would say hats are very similar to shoes in that they can make or break an outfit too.

So, some important things to think about are:

  1. Do you enjoy making big fashion statements or blending in?

  2. Do you want to create more contrast with your hair and skin?

  3. Do you want a hat style that is versatile for any outfit or are you looking for a certain type of combination?

  4. Do you want to have variety in your wardrobe?

For me, I like variety. I like options. I like the idea of wearing a hat with a fancy outfit or with jeans. So, I chose the Monroe in ivory, the Ginger in taupe, and the Dahlia. I’m so happy with my selections. I’ve already worn these hats with a ton of outfits. I highly recommend Gigi Pip for quality, well-made hats.

Hats with Cardigan Empire

Hats are tricky accessories. I often hear my clients say, "I'm just not a hat person," or "I just don't have a hat face." That's so silly! There's a hat for everyone out there. They come in all different shapes, sizes and colors.

I got together with my style pal Reachel Bagley of Cardigan Empire to talk about this very subject. She is such a delight to be around. I encourage you to follow her blog and subscribe to her amazing videos. Reachel really breaks things down to the how and why certain clothes work for different body shapes. Check out this really cool infographic Reachel made to help you choose the right hat for you, and then watch this video for our personal thoughts.

My Favorite Accessory: Hats

Hats are one accessory I can always have more of, I'm not sure what it is about them; maybe because putting on a hat makes you look mysterious? Or more likely, because putting on a hat hides your bad hair day. Whether it's a wide brimmed fedora, an athletic baseball cap, or a Jil Sander veiled beanie, a hat is the perfect topper for any outfit. hats6

Head-turning Hats

Last Friday, I spent the morning shopping with my good friend Jessica Williams, and we started talking about hats. I kept telling her how much I LOVE her in hats, and found myself saying, "I like people in hats because it makes them stand out in a crowd." Aside for the typical baseball hat, IT'S TRUE! I have only three to four fashion hats, and after that conversation and the photos below, I think I need to add more to my collection. Some hats add a touch of mystery, and I think all hats show off personality. Don't you agree?

Floppy

Last year it was the fedora. This year it's the wide brim, floppy hat.

I just recently bought a navy blue, straw hat from Buffalo Exchange, and I love it. They are perfect for the beach and Arizona.

Wear it with sun dresses, shorts, jeans...whatever. These hats a great accessory to almost every outfit.

I will say though that these hats do look best when you can see your hair.
