Featured in ELIZA Magazine - Geek Chic

I'm so excited to finally reveal a photo shoot that took place almost on year ago with photographer, Michelle Herrick. Last year, when "geek chic" became a term, we created a shoot centered around the theme and shot the concept at Brophy College Preparatory. What better place to be a geek, right?

Jaime from Agency Arizona was the perfect model for the job. Still being in high school, it was easy for her to channel her inner geek.

With each look I tried to create the different types of nerds.  There's the 4-H club nerd, the artsy nerd, the true book worm, the cute preppy nerd. Can there be a fashion nerd? If there is that's what I am. Can't learn enough!

We're super happy to see ELIZA showcase our work. It was a full collaboration of parties including hairstylist, Louise McEwen, and makeup artist, Jaime Edens.

Lights. Camera. Action!

Michelle Herrick recently invited me to do some impromptu styling for a photo shoot with her and Ryan Young. I had no idea what was going to happen other than two Agency Arizona models would be present and bringing a suitcase of clothes to use. I saw some photo inspiration from Michelle's Pinterest board that focused on lighting, and I knew that the shoot was going to be in Ryan's home studio, but that was pretty much it. I wanted to be a part of this opportunity because I had an inkling that this was going to be a fabulous learning experience for me, especially since backgrounds and lighting would be involved. I also have never really been in a situation where a shoot was going to take place and I didn't know what the wardrobe was going to be, nor the makeup or hair inspiration.

It was SO much fun! Everyone on set was fun to hang out with. There were some limitations in clothing, but it made me not only think on my feet, but get creative. Both Michelle and I brought some fun clothing pieces to use, and with our powers combined we made some great outfits for the lighting concepts.

The other factor was that two photo shoots were happening simultaneously - one model and photographer in one  room, the other two in another room with the beauty team glancing in both making sure everything was going okay. It was surreal, crazy and SOOO much fun! I got to back and forth to two different worlds it seems, and just create different looks without always having to measure it against some kind of theme. It was freeing in a way. =)

I hope you enjoy these photos! I LOVE how different this is from anything I've done so far, and I can't wait to get back into a studio and do it again!!!

Wild About Sequins

About two months ago, Michelle Herrick and I met at First Friday, and since then we've already done two fashion photography collaborations. The one I'm sharing with you today is our first love child - "Wild About Sequins."

The concept came to me while I was driving wearing my sequined infinity scarf when all of these dots of light began dancing around in my car. I thought it would be great to do a shoot around the glittery, trendy dots, so I shared the thought with Michelle, and she said, "Let's do it!"

I brought my good friend and hair stylist Kim Cornwell onto the team. We decided to have fun with several hair styles. We incorporated braids, wild messy waves and definitely my awesome head scarf that I am SO proud to say I wrapped myself. (Check out this post to see some wrap inspiration).

Obviously having a subject to photograph is key for a fashion shoot, so I asked my good, gorgeous gal pal, Sarah Hubbell, to be our muse for the day. Her beautiful brunette locks were perfect, as well as her fun personality! Not to mention she has awesome style, so I knew we would have fun putting outfits together with items from her own closet. Sarah is also a makeup master and did all of the makeup for the shoot.

My other friend Sarah Ingham let me steal her amazing sequin H&M dress and J.Crew sequined top. I used my own sequined belt and head scarf. We threw in pieces from Sarah Hubbell's wardrobe...and...voila! SEQUIN STYLE!

Michelle did the location hunting, and boy did she find a BEAUTY! We shot everything in a 70's style apartment in the middle of an orange grove with peacocks. NO LIE! haha! It was full of sunlight and blank walls - perfect for the airy vibe.

I hope you enjoy the photos! We had a blast creating them!
