Reveal: Master Closet Makeover

This post is sponsored by Easy Closets. After opening 25 boxes, installing new carpet, painting, installing a new light fixture and six evenings spent putting the pieces together...We finally have a new master closet!!!

We tried to keep that space as light as possible since there's no natural light coming through, so we chose white shelves, white walls and light carpet. We also bought all new matching hangers from Ikea, which helps the appearance a great deal.

I organized the closet by garment type and then by color. It's a lot easier to find what I'm looking for now. We added a tufted bench from Target, and a new light from Ikea to give the space more design interest.

The installation process of our Easy Closets was definitely time consuming, but once all of the boxes were unpacked and the support railings were hung it wasn't too long until we had it finished. Measuring and getting everything level is the hardest part, but Easy Closets made that simple by just making sure you install the support rail correctly.

You definitely should have some strong hands around. I wouldn't recommend a woman doing this all by herself. Even with working out I couldn't lift some of the heaviest boxes without hurting myself. Check out my previous posts to see the beginning and middle of this process.

Thanks Easy Closets for giving this stylist a beautiful new closet. Now it's time for February's monthly makeover! Stay tuned to see what it is...

Master Closet Makeover Update

This is a sponsored post by Easy Closets.

It's happening! We started working on our closet last Thursday, and almost a week later we have new carpet, newly painted walls and we have installed the skeleton of our closet.

I made a trip to Ikea to get all new matching wood hangers. They are only $3.50 for a pack of 6! That's a steal if you ask me.

Putting the closet together definitely has been an easy process, but it's time consuming. Easy Closets has been living up to their name, and we are really pleased with the quality of their product and the customized, easy-to-follow directions they sent. What has been the hardest part is having all of our clothes and shoes scattered in our guest bedroom. We feel very UN-organized right now. We hope to finish everything by tonight though, and then I'll be able to start the process of organizing our clothes and drawers.

January Makeover: The Master Closet

One would think that a fashion stylist would have an amazing closet, but here's proof that's not an accurate assumption.

My closet functions. I know where things are, and there's a method to my madness (I swear). But, is my closet the best it can be? Is it organized in an optimal way? Nope! With the new beginnings come new goals, and one of my goals is to do a home makeover project each month starting with my master closet.

Easy Closets is going to help me achieve my January goal. I've already met with one of their designers, and she has redesigned my space virtually. I can't wait to get started putting it all together and show you the process.

Win a Closet Makeover!

If you have been keeping up with my blog you may know that I am starting my own business as a stylist (read about it here). One of the services that I will be offering is closet organization. Why? Well, when your closet is messy you end up wearing the same outfits repeatedly because you forget about the other clothes tucked away in the nooks and crannies of your drawers and shelves. Once your closet has a system and the clothes that are ill-fitting are donated or packed away, you may find yourself looking at a whole new set of  outfits.

So, where does the contest come in....(click the title to keep reading).

Before I do an official kick off of my consulting business, I need before and after photos of the work I have done. Now, yes, I could just do my own closet, which I actually did this weekend, but that's not as fun.

Here's what closet organization entails...

>Folding and hanging clothes >Helping you decide what the keepers and tossers are >Color coding

So here's my proposal and where you come in..If you are in the Phoenix Metro area and you would like me to come to your house and organize your bedroom closet for FREE, perk up those ears and sharpen those eyes...

To enter the contest, do one or both of the following (each item gives you an entry).

1. Leave a comment with your name and email address saying why your closet needs help

2. Tweet the following, "Win a closet makeover by @alexevjen, http://www.alexandraevjen.com."

The contest ends tomorrow, February 24, 2010 at 12:00p.m. MST. Three winners will be chosen. I will notify the winners via email by Wednesday evening.

Silver Slippers

abs silver flatsFor the past four or five years, my closet has been home to silver ballet flats. I've been through four pairs over the years, and some how I always manage to replace my worn out silver slippers with a new pair. Ryan usually rolls his eyes along with the rest of my family that refers to them as my stinky shoes. haha. (sometimes your feet sweat...that's all I have to say about that). Well, this summer I said good-bye to some Nine West ballet flats and "hello" to some A.B.S. ones. =)
