From the Runway to Everyday

Sometimes it's hard to translate looks from the runway to everyday. Wearing just a bra under a sweater doesn't fly unless you're a celebrity, but wearing a pretty bra under a camisole under a cardigan - that works! haha. Check out my look inspired by Rochas' Spring 2010 collection.

The fashion industry is always looking forward, and sometimes it makes it hard to know what's essential for right now. So, here are my picks for Summer 2010.

Kate Spade

My first designer handbag was a giraffe print Kate Spade purse. I can remember the moment when I saw it. I was 14 years old, it was around Christmas time and I was walking through Neiman Marcus feeling awkward because I wasn't dressed up enough, and then I saw it...black leather straps, boxy shape, red silk inside and fuzzy giraffe print on the outside. I begged and begged my mom to make this purse my Christmas and birthday gift combined (my birthday is in June). haha. Needless to say, she honored my request and I brought that bag to school every day!

I have been a big supporter of Kate Spade ever since, and I'm really loving this year's ad campaigns. Kate Spade always uses color in fun, cute, sassy and classic ways.

Here is an outfit inspired by their Spring 2010 ad campaign...

My Personal Style

I'm in the process of branding AVE Styles, and the lovely Promise Tangeman is doing my identity work. She is having me go through an exercise of creating inspiration boards that express my style because, ultimately, I'm selling myself. So, here's a peak into my style (inspiration boards above and below)...

Preppy, classic, timeless, feminine, east coast, sophisticated

Those are the words that describe my style. Though I appreciate those that can pull off hippy chic and glam rock, I'm a fairly serious, type A gal that gets a bit frazzled by mismatched prints, neon colors and too much hardware. haha.

Velvet Accents

img-thingI'm not a big fan of velvet, honestly. As a fashion lover I should never rule out any fabric or item because things have a way of coming back in style. To me, velvet reminds me of junior high when I had a dress code of red, black and white, and all I could find during the winter time were these red and black velvet, short-sleeved shirts (short-sleeved in winter time only Houston or Phoenix). I wore them every week - imprisoned in the fabric. haha. ;)

I don't mind seeing velvet used as an accent to a garment or accessory, however. Here are some items that I really enjoy!
